The recreation center has an indoor pool and other facilities that are available to park goers. Eugene Field, one of America's most beloved poets and a Denver resident, lived in Washington Park’s northwest corner from 1882 to 1883. A statue featuring Field's famous Wynken, Blynken and Nod characters was erected next to his cottage.

The east-side neighborhood of Washington Park is bordered by Downing Street, Cherry Creek, University Boulevard and Interstate 25 and contains Washington Park itself.

One of the oldest neighborhoods in Denver, Washington Park was developed in the 1900s when South Denver was annexed into Denver in 1886. As a result, brick dwellings of the early 20th century are a prominent feature of Washington Park homes.
