Denver History

Founded during the Pikes Peak Gold Rush of 1858 by land speculator General William Larimer, Denver has a rich history built on hard work and a dedication to excellence.  Denver City was named it after former Kansas Governor James W. Denver in hopes that the governor would make it the county seat of Arapahoe County. Ironically, the governor finished his term before he could ever make Denver the county seat.  

The Colorado Territory, however, was created on February 1861 and Denver City was incorporated later that same year. Denver's presence grew when it became the Territorial Capital in 1865, and in 1876, when Denver became the State Capital. 

Denver Parks

To live in Denver is to live in Nature. Denver residents enjoy over 200 parks, the most prominent of which is City Park, a 330-acre park and neighborhood located in the east-central part of the city. Some of the park’s attractions include the Denver Zoo, the Denver Museum of Nature and Science, Ferril and Duck Lakes, and the boathouse. Colfax Avenue, in the southern part of City Park, is a popular tourist destination, containing many hip restaurants and shops. City Park also frequently holds free concerts.

Denver is a nature-lover's paradise, with over 40,000 acres of mountain parks, including the world-famous Red Rocks Park, which contains the Red Rocks Amphitheatre, scene of countless concerts from the world's greatest acts.
